Use of historic photographs – We have had a request from the Diamond Valley Chamber of Commerce to use photographs of the town of Turner Valley and the Village of Longview to present to new businesses or expanding business within the Diamond Valley Area. Their plan is to present a 8X10” framed copy to new or expanded businesses as a welcome to the area and/or congratulations.
Moved by Maureen that we allow for use by the Chamber at no charge but must have “Photo courtesy of The Turner Valley Oilfields Society”, seconded by Jim and carried.

Gas Plant Advisory - The Panel, with graphics and financial assistance from the Province, put on a public Open House at the Flare n Derrick in Turner Valley, on Thursday, June 14 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. It was quite well attended perhaps 90 to 100 people.
Most of the Panel was present, as well as Lonny Gabinet, the facilitator, Directory of the Provincial Historic Sites, Catherine Whally, a representative from Calgary Health Region, and other Technical experts.
People came and went, roaming freely in the hall, and two structured Panel presentations were made at 5:00 and 7:00 pm, followed by Q & A.
The Panel introduced themselves, telling their own background and interest in the Plant.
The topics covered in the presentations were:

- The timeline and work of the Panel since May 2006. (by Lori Czerwinski) (This was also on poster boards and a handout.)

-Specific remediations and the Panel members evaluations of these (a binder of assessment sheets done individually will go to the Minister.) (Barry Williamson)

-Presentation and visualization of the future work of the Panel- where we go from here. (Sharlene Brown)

-Request for informed public input through the Survey, in paper copy or on the website, which is due by July 15, 2007. See www.turnervalley.gov.ab.ca and scroll down to survey. To give background, the technical articles on each remediation are also available on the website, to help people understand the cleanup to date, and give informed input. (Joy Hinman)

-The engineers, CHA, and Alberta Environment technical experts were able to deal with the more technical questions in the Q&A sessions and afterward.

The set up of the room was attractive. Graphics (historic photos and timeline of the Gas Plant, with accompanying text) made the display easy to follow. Pictures and minimal wording carried the story. People found it interesting and looked at everything. Diagrams of the water containment/treatment system attracted a lot of attention and questions.

Public attitude at the Open House was enthusiastic and positive.

Since the Open House, the Panel met again on June 26th to debrief on the Open House.

Preliminary results of the Survey to date, indicate about a 91 percent desire to see the Gas Plant developed as an active, preserved historic site and center.
More public input, by way of the survey, is still wanted, up to July 15th.

The Panel will meet twice during the summer, and will set up a schedule, by the subcommittee, to set goals and dates for going over the Development Plan for the site.
Website Update - Barb advised that in May we had 52, 654 hits and June hits to the 12th are 41,151
Barb has supplied us with graphs and further hit information along with referral information for the Site for grant purposes for the past year. June 2006 to May 2007.

Great Petroleum Race – Pictures, panels and driving tour booklets were used for the presentation
Good questions and a lot of interest. We had to come up with 5 questions for the participants.
A handout was distributed containing both the hellshalfacres.com and turnervalley.gov.ab.ca
Jim spoke with the organizer and she was very happy with what we had done. Cheque is on the way for pins. They had 56 participants in attendance.

7 Wonders of Canada – Both Sharlene and Barb attempted to see if we could resubmit. By the time they got back to the site it had been completed.

AGM – Moved Barb to have the AGM on Thursday September 27th at 7pm, Flare and Derrick Seconded by Sharlene and carried. Barb to send info to the Gazette right away so that it will go in the paper in time for the meeting. Our next meeting will be August 30, at 7:30, Town of Turner Valley to plan for the AGM.

Crown of the Continent – Barb went to the site and advises that they will be making the decision over the next few months. Will check back before the August meeting. Suggested that we supply Catherine Whally with the nomination information once Crown of the Continent has made a decision.

Jim advises that George Wallace has been in contact with him, Mr. Wallace has stuff he want to give to us. Jim will get us together to view what is available.

Moved by Barb to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 pm
